Why Do We Lie?

“God is not a man, so He does not lie. He is not human, so He does not change His mind. Has He ever spoken and failed to act? Has He ever promised and not carried it through?” Numbers 23:19 NLT

When was the last time you told a lie? It may not have been a whopper. Maybe you just bent the truth a bit or used clever words to lead someone to believe a lie without really speaking the lie yourself… Now that you have the lie in mind ask yourself this question: Why did you do it?

Did you lie to cover a mistake, make your contribution look better than it was, manipulate someone do something, or possibly to avoid saying the hard thing?

Because God is Righteous He never makes a mistake that needs covering up. Since God is Sovereign He never has to lie in order to accomplish His perfect will. The fact that God loves us and works for our best interest means He never lies to us about what is true.

Unlike you and me, God never needs to lie, is never tempted to lie and, because God is Holy (perfect and pure), His very character makes it impossible for Him to lie. We can count on Him to always tell us the truth!

Your View of God Really Matters…

Since God cannot lie to you, how do you respond to statements in the Bible you don’t like? Think of one right now. Take God at His Word and live today trusting that it is really true!

Read God’s Word Today…

Hebrews 6:18. “So God has given both His promise and His oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie.”

GOD, because You are absolute truth, I will believe what You say and live accordingly.
