“Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered Himself as a sacrifice for us…”. Ephesians 5:3
What does God want from you today? It’s easy to come up with a “to do” list and a “don’t do” list. We focus on our behavior, trying to please God with how we live our lives, and we miss the one thing that will ignite our days with power, peace and joy.
A friend once asked Charles Wesley, one of the greatest preachers of his generation, why people were drawn magnetically to him everywhere he went. Wesley replied, “When you set yourself on fire, people love to come just to watch you burn.”
When you love God, truly, deeply love Him, those around you can sense it. They see your spiritual fire, your “first love”, within you, and they will be inspired by our example. You will not be able to resist sharing the fire, but even if you did not say a word, you would find yourself drawn into conversations about Jesus. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. You will stand out in your world, and people will have questions about the burning passion in your eyes and your work. Your greatest joy in life will come from helping other people to find the same joy you have found in knowing, loving, trusting, and obeying our dear Lord.
And, by loving God, you’ll soon find that God’s love will flood your heart with His peace. The world is filled with people in turmoil, but every single one of us was made to live and thrive on the love of our wonderful God. When we try to live any other way, we only find ourselves at war within our hearts. We sense there is more, and we know there must be abundant living somehow, but we will find no lasting happiness until the love of God envelops us and makes us whole.
Your view of God really matters…
Is the love of God enveloping you? Talk with Him about it. Open up to Him about your struggles with sin and ask for forgiveness and help in saying “no” to temptations. Talk with Him about your fears, disappointments, hopes and dreams. Share with Him your desire to love Him better and to experience His love for you. Ask Him, through the power of the Holy Spirit, to help you do both. Thank Him for loving you, dying for you and for forgiving you. Surrender today to Him. Now go through the day focused on His love for you and watch the embers begin to blaze!
Read God’s Word Today…
“I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through His Spirit. Then Christ will make His home in your hearts as you trust in Him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” Ephesians 3:16-19
“John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” Luke 3:16
GOD, because You are love my heart can be ablaze with joy and peace today.
