Shocking Obituary

“I trust in God's unfailing love forever and ever.” Psalm 52:8

Her obituary went viral. Written by two of her children, the raw honesty of it caught many by surprise.

Kathleen Dehmlow married Dennis Dehmlow in 1957 and had two children, Gina and Jay. Gina and Jay wrote this about their mother:

  • In 1962 she became pregnant by her husband’s brother Lyle Dehmlow and moved to California.

  • She abandoned her children, Gina and Jay who were then raised by her parents…

  • She passed away on May 31, 2018 in Springfield and will now face judgement. She will not be missed by Gina and Jay, and they understand that this world is a better place without her.

Such hurt. Such anger. Such bitterness. Betrayed love can do deep and long lasting damage.

God, too, understands betrayal. However, because His love is beyond our comprehension, His response to our betrayal is as well.

Adam and Eve were the first to betray the Creator. But even before they said, “no” to His love in the Garden of Eden, God already had a plan to forgive them (and all who would come after them if they choose to accept it). There was never a moment when God did not purpose in His love to make the ultimate sacrifice for us. He planned to leave heaven's glory, beauty, and peace and take on the body of a man. You and I, who are not even worthy to call His name, are so loved that we were always on His mind! When we receive Jesus as our Savior and Lord, God envelops and infuses us with His everlasting love. John recognized this and exclaimed in 1 John 3:1, "See how very much our Father loves us, for He calls us His children, and that is what we are!" This love will never abandon or betray us.

Your View of God Really Matters…

Has someone betrayed you? Abandoned you? If you don’t want to end up like Gina and Jay (angry and bitter) ask God to help you forgive and to fill your heart to overflowing with His love.

Do you know someone who needs to see God's love? Look for ways to demonstrate God's unselfish love to that person.

Read God’s Word Today…

Ephesians 3:17-18 NLT “I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through His Spirit. Then Christ will make His home in your hearts as you trust in Him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high and how deep His love is.”

GOD, because You are love I know I am always loved by You.
