God's Job, Our Job

“We know these things because God has revealed them to us by His Spirit...” 1 Corinthians 2:10

An engineer told Bill Bright that if his questions could be answered, he would become a Christian. Many of us might start looking around for someone more qualified to answer the questions, while others would jump at the opportunity to unload every bit of theological knowledge they have in the hope of persuading the man to trust in Christ. Bill Bright did neither.

“Do you want to know Christ?” Bill asked. He said he did.

Bill’s next words reflect an understanding of God’s role and our role. He suggested that the man pray and receive Christ and then they would discuss his questions. He agreed. After he accepted Jesus Bill asked to hear his questions. The engineer looked at him with a smile and said, "I don't have any questions. They are all answered."

Bill often said, “I have never led anyone to Christ, and I never will. It is the Holy Spirit who is responsible for producing fruit. We simply take the initiative to share Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit and leave the results to God.”

There is a great misconception about evangelism: People believe it has something to do with winning an argument. We often worry about how we can persuade a nonbeliever to be saved from his sin. But no one is ever debated into the kingdom of God. It is our role to gently deliver the message. It is the Holy Spirit who does the persuading. He works in the hearts and minds of the people to convict them of the truth.

We simply need to take God at His Word that the Spirit will accomplish His work in the hearts and minds of those to whom we witness.

Your View of God ReallyMatters …

Don’t carry the burden of persuading someone to trust Christ. When talking with people about Jesus, ask God for discernment about what the person's real need is. Don't argue with them. Just give them the opportunity to say "Yes" to Jesus and leave the rest to God.

Read God’s Word Today…

Isaiah 55:10-11 NLT “The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with My word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.”

GOD, because You are all-powerful You are the One who changes hearts.
