Does Prayer Really Change Anything?

“God also bound Himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that He would never change His mind.” Hebrews 6:17

One of the mysteries of God's unchanging nature is reflected in the power of prayer. Have you ever wondered, "If God never changes, what is the purpose of prayer and other communication with God?"

Here’s one thing we know—although God will never change His nature or His overarching plans and purposes, the Bible records occasions when God altered His plans on a limited basis in response to someone’s faith and actions.

For example, God heard the sincere repentance of the people in Ninevah and He withheld the judgment He said He would send. At other times, He responds to the needs of human beings or the fervent prayer of the righteous, as illustrated by the parable Jesus told about the widow who persistently pled with the judge for justice.

We know that God never changes, and yet He relates to us and gives us our free will. When we pray and ask Him to intervene in our lives, He does so---when it is in line with His will. He works through us as we walk and talk with Him, bringing our hearts into alignment with His.

Take comfort in the fact that God never changes; but realize that when we seek His face, we can expect Him to respond to our prayers.

Your View of God Really Matters …

God always answers our prayers. His unchanging nature ensures He will never answer in a way that compromises His other attributes… and that’s a good thing! Where do you need God to intervene in your life or even your community today? How will He be glorified by answering your prayer? Pray in humility, understanding that our unchanging God is sovereign and He sees the entire picture.

Read God’s Word Today…

Jonah 3:10 “When God saw what they had done and how they had put a stop to their evil ways, He changed His mind and did not carry out the destruction He had threatened.”

GOD, because You are unchanging I trust Your answers to my prayers are perfect and best.
